Route description
This tour is rather easy but provides a stunning view on the landscape of Grimsel area. Ascend via hut Huseegghütte to Sidelhorn. You will find water in all kinds of variations on your way. Up at the peak you will have a great view on Goms and on Berner Hochalpen. You will also see the ice of the glaciers Rhonegletscher and Oberaargletscher and the idyllic torrents of this area. Many lakes will be on your way like Grimelsee and Totensee.
While descending you will pass the beautiful lake Trübtensee. Starting at Bäregg you can enjoy the stunning view on the UNESCO world heritage area.
On your way back take the trail via Kessiturm, Chalte Chehr or along the road Oberaarstraße, to get back to Grimselpass. The restaurant Grimselblick is perfect for some food and a rest.
Interesting facts
- With an overall length of 4 miles the hike is among the 10 longest hikes in the Valais available on TouriSpo.
- The hike is one of the family friendly trails in the region. The hike is also perfect if the kid’s wanna bring their dog on the trip. (See all dog friendly hikes in the Valais.)
- Hiking boots are not required, but the hike might be more enjoyable with sturdy footwear (especially in wet conditions). If you get hungry along the way, there are places to rest and get food. Nevertheless it’s recommended to also have enough water and food in your backpack when hiking or biking.
