Route description

Stage 1: time: 6h

Hike from the dam on 2048m difference of altitude towards Rotengraben (1478m). Takes approximately 1h 10min. Now follow the winding roads of the old mountain path which connected Bern and Sion in earlier days. Walk up and pass the castle on Vordere Wispile and Hintere Wispile. Takes approximately 1h 40min. Continue until Droseloch and you will reach lake Lauensee in about 1h 20min, where you can rest and have some food. Now follow the stream Geltenbach upwards. Pass Alp Feissenberg and hike along the amazing Geltenschluss up to hut Geltenhütte, which is located at 2002m hight on Alp Inneri Gelten.

Stage 2: time: 3h 45min

East of Geltenhütte continue on a mountain path, which leads passed Alp Usseri Gelten and the slope of mountian Follhore until you reach Alp Chüetungel after 55min. The path contributes ropes and a ladder for your safety. A beautiful view from Geltentrittli towards Geltenschuss and above Lauental is waiting for you. Now continue to the right up Niesenhornflanke towards mountain Stiegelschafberg at 2300m hight. Takes approximately 1h 40min.

If you want to avoid the steep ascent you can take a detour over idylic Alp Stieretungel. Via pass Tungelpass you reach Stiegelschafberg. To get to hut Wildhornhütte take the horizontal path away from the northern slope of mountain Nieshorn. There you can have a rest.

Afterwards start descending over Schwemmebene Sandboden passing lake Iffigensee. Takes approximately 2h.

Stage 3: time: 4h

Ascent on steep winding roads and a traverse up to Stiereläger and turn to hut Wildstrubelhütte.

After 2h 30min you will reach the pass. Continue over Plan des Roses until you reach a lake. Takes about 40min and you will reach the french speaking village Ayent. If you want to take a break there we recommend the accommodation Etappe Lourantse. Continue at the north side of the lake on narrow but well tagged trails. Go further passing Karrenfelden. For the next part you will need some climbing skills. At a hight of 2480m you descent down to Tenehet's mountain lake. Takes about 1,5h. Walk further downwards and cross the Karrenfeld of Tenehet, a type of stony desert with rocks eroded by water. Afterwards you walk uphill towards Kaltwasserpass, where you can already see the hut, which you will reach after a descent of 2h walking towards Lac des Audannes.

Stage 4: time 6h
