Description
500 years of European art history are presented in the Alte Galerie. The exhibition rooms themselves are also artistically valuable: the Alte Galerie is located in 22 halls of Schloss Eggenberg.
On display are masterpieces of Austrian Gothic, which represent faith at the time of the Middle Ages. Detailed pictures tell of the life of the earlier modern period and Renaissance and sumptuous works of the colourful Baroque. Among the highlights are the "Admonter Madonna" as well as works by Lucas Chranach the Elder, Johann Georg Platzer and M.J. Schmidt. Every year there is also a large special exhibition.
