The Oceanogràfic
The Oceanogràfic is Europes largest aquarium. It's a part of the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia. It was designed by the vanguard architect Félix Candela and opened in 2003. Ever since, more than 13 million visitors have seen the unique construction and its aquatic maritime world.
Exhibition
The Oceanogràfic shows more than 500 different animal species from all oceans, including dolphins, beluga whales, sea lions, sharks, rays and many other species.
Each part of the building is dedicated to a different ocean or climatic region. Within a short time, one gets to see the world's entire spectrum of aquatic life, anything from the Arctic zone to Antarctica, from South America to the Caribbean and from the Red Sea to the Atlantic. On a much smaller scale, one can also learn about typical species occurring in and around Valencia.
Highlights
The aquarium has a lot of specials to offer. Apart from guided tours, one may opt for sleeping with sharks, see a dolphin show, and for those interested, our guards will accompany you upon request.
How to get there
The Oceanogràfic lies in the city park in the former riverbed of the Turia.
By public transport
One can easily get here by using the following bus lines: 19, 35, 95 and 40.
By car
In the Avenida del Profesor Dr. Lopez Piñero, at the Umbracle, there are plenty of parking facilities provided.
