Route description
The beautiful high walk leads from Zauchensee to Flachau.
Zauchensee - going up with the lift Gamskogelbahn (take note of the opening time from the lift) - Gamskogelhütte - path Nr. 86 - Wurmkar path Nr. 73 - Hirschkopf (1971 m) - Rosskopf (1929 m) - Hinterkogel (1922 m) - Vorderkogel (2008 m) - Lackenkogel (2051 m) - Lackenalmen - Sattelbauer - descend to Flachau, path Nr. 32
Where to eat
At the start and final point of the trip you get refreshments at different huts. At the beginning of the tour you have the possiblity to get something to eat at the Gamskogelhütte. On the way, nearly at the end of the tour, you can make a break at the huts Lackenalmen (Göttfriedhütte and Hinterkuchlberghütte). At the end of the hiking trip the Sattelbauer invites you for a snack or more.
Interesting facts
- You're traveling a distance of 15 km on this strenuous trail. Average length of all hikes in Salzburg is 15 km.
- You're facing an uphill climb of 598 vertical meters on this hike. The high point of the hike is located at an elevation of 1,999 m.

- Sturdy hiking boots are recommended on this track. If you get hungry along the way, there are places to rest and get food. Nevertheless it’s recommended to also have enough water and food in your backpack when hiking or biking.

Highlights of the tour
The highlight of this tour is the panorama from the peaks Hirschköpfl, Rosskopf, Hinterkogel, Vorderkogel and Lackenkogel and the paradise of the moutain alps at the "Lackenalmen".
Variations
From the Gamskogelhütte you can make a small detour to the Gamskogel (2186 m) - way Nr. 85
Equipment
You should definitely wear trekking or mountain boots. At the last third of the tour step security is required.
Getting here
by car
From Flachau to Altenmarkt and from there in direction to Zauchensee. In Zauchensee going up with the lift "Gamskogelbahn".
by public transport
With the "Sportwelt-Bus" you get to the bus station "Altenmarkt-Zauchensee"
