Description
The Kundler Gorge is one of the most beautiful gorges in Austria. It is the shortest connection between Kundl and the Wildschönau, through which the Wildschönauer Ache flows.
But it should not have been the Ache to whom we owe the Kundler Klamm. A dragon is said to have bitten the Kundl Gorge out of the rock. Legend has it that the Wildschönau was once a lake. Inside was a terrible dragon. A farmer outsmarted and killed him. In the end the monster bit through the rock to Kundl and the lake emptied itself. This is how the Wildschönau and Kundler Gorge were created. Long after this legend the gorge was opened up with a path. Along steeper rock faces, up to 200 metres high, you can easily walk along the Wildschönauer Ache through the Kundler Gorge. Again and again numerous places invite you to play and linger at the cool water.
The tour through the gorge can be started from Kundl or the Wildschönau. In Kundl, numerous signposts lead to the Kundl gorge. In the Wildschönau, you start from Mühltal, either on foot or with the slow train, to the entrance of the Kundler Gorge.
Opening hours: April to mid November
TIP: The Wildschönau slow train runs daily (Monday to Sunday) from the beginning of May to mid October from 10.00 to 16.00 every hour on the hour to the entrance of the Kundler Gorge.
