At Ahorn in Mayrhofen, known for its spectacular bird of prey shows, a new highlight is being created for summer guests: The Skyride Ahorn, launching at the end of May, offers a unique gondola experience. An open cable car will take visitors to the Ahorn Plateau in just seven minutes. Instead of closed windows, passengers will enjoy an open-air experience with fresh air and unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains. For all the details and other highlights waiting for you on the popular Zillertal excursion mountain, read on in this article.
From the end of May: An open panoramic gondola
With the Skyride Ahorn, the Mayrhofen Mountain Railways are expanding their offerings at the end of May 2025 to include a unique experience: an open panoramic gondola that provides guests with 360-degree views of the Zillertal Alps during the ride. An open panoramic deck made of glass and aluminum has been installed on the roof of an existing cabin of the Ahornbahn, accessible via a separate entrance, offering space for up to 30 people.
The ride to the Ahorn Plateau, located about 2,000 meters above sea level, takes around 6.5 minutes and operates at a speed of up to 10 meters per second. The Skyride complements the regular cable car operation and is available for an additional fee. The transformation is being carried out in collaboration with the Doppelmayr and Carvatech ropeway companies, as well as the Fankhauser metalworking shop.
Spectacular viewpoint: The new Griffin Bridge

A relatively new and definitely a highlight at the Ahorn Plateau is the Griffin Bridge. Since the summer of 2024, this delicate steel construction has been a thrilling addition to the Albert Adler Experience Trail, offering excitement with panoramic views. The bridge extends up to 25 meters over the cliff edge – seemingly weightless but securely anchored with 23 anchoring bolts and around 250 meters of steel cable. Along its 75-meter span, visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Zillertal, the surrounding peaks, and the vastness of the Tyrolean Alps.
The Griffin Bridge is named after the birds of prey, which are the thematic centerpiece of the Ahorn Experience World. Nearby is the AdlerBühne Ahorn, Europe's highest bird of prey station.
