Come to Malta and let Popeye and his friends invite you to a day filled with fun and action! Popeye Village, built upon the set for 1980 musical film "Popeye", welcomes its guests at the north of the main island.
A number of attractions has been set up between the 19 original wooden buildings. At Santa's Toy Town, for example, you get to watch elves get everything ready for the most wonderful time of the year. Furthermore, boat rides, (water) trampolines, sun bathing decks, and a beach lido are available. The entertainment crew makes sure that no one gets bored. Naturally, the strong sailor himself and his friends are also there to help you make the most of your visit. Foods and drinks are available at the diner as well as the two snack bars. And don't worry - there's more than just spinach on the menu!
Many visitor's highlight is the special filming experience that brings the guests themselves to the big screen. Another great experience is visiting for special occasions, such as Halloween, Carnival, or Easter. The village is decorated accordingly, and you get to enjoy seasonal shows and attractions.
Cartoon sailor Popeye was first introduced by Elzie Segar in 1929. After his popularity increased, plans for a film began around the mid-70s. Therefor, Popeye Village was constructed at Anchor Bay in 1979 as the film set for the musical film starring Robin Williams as the popular sailor. Filming started in January 1980. After the film was shot, the set slowly turned into one of Malta's major tourist attractions.
