Description
An unusual highlight awaits you in the “Vaals border triangle” between Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. On the highest mountain in the Netherlands, there is a huge hedge maze.
The Dreiländereck maze is the largest maze in the Netherlands and an exciting challenge for young and old alike. The goal is to find your way to the center of the maze. To solve the puzzle, you have to answer questions and complete tasks. Test your skills at air rifle shooting, on the Segway course, and by building a six-meter-high tower out of bamboo sticks. On your way through the maze, you will pass sudden splashing water walls that always provide surprises. Most of the information boards in the maze are written in Dutch.
If you tackle the maze with a group, you can have a personalized, hand-engraved souvenir made for all group members or just for the winner of the group as a memento of this special experience.
The roof of the entrance area is shaped like a butterfly and planted with colorful flowers. In addition to a souvenir shop, the building also houses a travel agency. Here you can find not only small souvenirs and regional products, but also general information about the region, tourist books and brochures, and travel guides.
In addition to the exciting maze, there are also two different treasure hunts for children: “In the footsteps of the smuggler” and “The secret of the old customs officer.” The scavenger hunts lead through the forests around the tri-border area and can be booked in the shop.
Right next to the entrance building is a forecourt with a café, a French fry stand, and a restaurant. There is also a free water playground with numerous fountains and water features, as well as public restrooms.
How to get there
The Dreiländerpunkt labyrinth in Vaals is located about seven kilometers from Aachen city center and is easily accessible by public transport or car.
By public transport:
If you prefer public transport, you can take a train to Aachen in Germany and then a bus to Vaals. Once you arrive in Vaals, you can either walk to the labyrinth (it is about 2 kilometers from the center of Vaals) or take a local bus that stops near the labyrinth.
By car:
If you are traveling by car, you can take the A4 or A76 motorway, depending on which direction you are coming from. Take the exit towards Vaals and follow the signs to “Dreiländerpunkt” or “Labyrinth.” There is plenty of free parking at the border triangle.
