Between Rocky Mountains and Badlands

Framed by the Rocky Mountain in the West, the Badlands in the East, the Northwest Territories in the North and the US state of Montana in the South, Alberta impresses with its many-sided nature. Five national parks, among them Canada's oldest, the Banff National Park, as well as over 300 province parks protect the manifold animal and plant world.

Within the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Rocky Mountains lies Mount Columbia. With a height of 3,747 meters it is the highest point in the West Canadian province. Contrasting are the meager Canadian Badlands. They impress with a hilly landscape and peculiarly formed stone pinnacles. A gigantic ice field surrounds the Athabasca Glacier, one of the biggest glaciers in North America.

The cities of Alberta score big with diversity. Embedded in prairie and pine forests lies Edmonton, the country's capital and also a city well-known for its festivals. Here, you find one of the world's largest shopping malls, West Edmonton Mall. Calgary, the biggest city in the country, offers a unique combination of nature and urbanity: Enjoy the wilderness during the day, and culture during the evening – all is possible here.
