Description
You can get an insight into the secrets of the glaciers in the world's largest ice pavilion in the Fee Glacier in Valais. Even the journey is an experience, because it takes place with the highest funicular railway in the world. At the top of Allalin (3500 metres above sea level), you can explore the world's largest ice cave with 5500 square metres. Natural ice forms and huge sculptures created by ice artists await you here. These are perfectly staged by numerous lights. But also the protection of the threatened ecosystem of the glacier and the dangers, among other things on the basis of an avalanche simulation, are thematized.
The ice pavilion, created in 1990, was completely redesigned in spring 2016 and now attracts visitors with many new ice highlights. Every week you can learn interesting facts about the glacier during a guided tour through the eternal ice with the glaciologist Benedikt Schyder.
Since the temperature in the ice pavilion is -5 degrees, a warm jacket is an advantage when visiting. Also sturdy shoes are obligatory, as the visitors partly move on ice. The ice pavilion is not suitable for wheelchair users.
