The Tallest Television Tower in the Southern Hemisphere

Magnificent views and a unique experience at height await at the Sky Tower in the New Zealand city of Auckland. Rising 328 metres into the sky, it is the tallest television tower in the southern hemisphere. The structure has defined Auckland's skyline since 1997 and is regarded as one of the city's symbols. On special occasions, it is illuminated in various colours.

Impressive Panoramic Views

The Sky Tower boasts three viewing platforms at different heights — stunning panoramas are guaranteed. A glass elevator takes visitors to the first platform at 182 metres. For those who want to go higher, the main observation level awaits at 191 metres. Right at the top, on the 60th floor, the Sky Deck offers the most spectacular views of all. At 220 metres above ground and open to the elements, it promises breathtaking vistas. On clear days, visibility extends up to 82 kilometres, revealing the Leigh Peninsula to the north, Great Barrier Island to the east, the Waitakere Ranges to the west and the Bombay Hills to the south. Naturally, the Sky Tower also offers a wonderful view of Auckland itself.

Thrills and Indulgence at the Sky Tower

Daring visitors can attempt a Sky Jump from the 53rd floor. The secured bungee jump plunges 192 metres into the depths. Equally not for the faint-hearted is the Sky Walk, also located on this floor. The 1.2-metre-wide platform has a glass floor and opens up breathtaking views straight down. One floor below, on the 52nd floor, the Orbit offers a unique dining experience. The 360-degree restaurant completes a full rotation once every 60 minutes. A wonderful view can also be enjoyed at the Sky Lounge on the 50th floor. During the day, the café serves delicious drinks and light snacks; in the evening, cocktails are mixed here.

Auckland's Sky City Complex

The Sky Tower is part of the Sky City complex. Around 20 restaurants, cafés and bars — some renowned for their exquisite cuisine — await visitors there. Entertainment is provided by the casino, with over 100 classic table games and more than 1,600 slot machines, and the Sky City Theatre.

Construction of the Sky Tower began in 1994. After two years and nine months of building work, the 328-metre steel and concrete tower was inaugurated on 3 March 1997. Designed by the architects at Craig Moller Ltd. and built by Fletcher Construction, the project cost 50 million US dollars.

The Sky Tower stands in the heart of Auckland on New Zealand's North Island.

By car

The city centre is reached from the south or north via Motorway 1 (Southern Motorway) and from the west via Motorway 16 (North-Western Motorway).

By public transport

Several bus stops are located in the immediate vicinity of the Sky Tower. Directly opposite the complex, for example, is the Victoria St / Victoria St West bus stop. The Auckland Central stop is also only around 100 metres from the tower. Britomart railway station is a good kilometre away.
