Historical Information
The Game of Thrones Studio Tour has its roots in a centuries-old industrial history. The Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge were originally a bustling linen factory that was built in the 1900s. After the decline of the local linen industry in 2008, HBO discovered the abandoned factory halls as ideal film locations. From 2011, the historic production facilities transformed into authentic Westeros locations, where a third of all Northern Irish Game of Thrones scenes were filmed. After the completion of the final season in 2019, the vision of a permanent visitor attraction developed in partnership with HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery. In February 2022, the world's first and only official Game of Thrones Studio Tour finally opened its doors and today embodies the legacy of one of the most successful television series of all time.
