Route description
From Schliffkopf to Ruhestein
The third stage of Seensteig trail leads you from Schliffkopf over Ruhestein and Wildsee lake to Mummelsee lake. Starting at the bus stop of Schliffkopfhotel, you start on Westweg trail. You can choose between two variations: either continue on Westweg, which features a unique view over the Rhine valley, or you walk on Willis Kaiservariante, passing Langhartkopf ski lift, Melkenteich pond, Bärenstein and Kaisersteigele.
Through the Forest to the Lake
Once you've made it to Ruhenstein, you can grab a bite to eat or visit the nature protection centre. Again, you can choose between two ways: either follow the serpentines up the mountain, or use the ski lift Ruhestein, which takes you up the hill in five minutes. Afterwards, you pass the so-called Eutingrab, and get to Wildsee lake, which boasts a beautiful view over Langenbach valley. Now you walk towards Murgtal, where you can still walk through the forest and around the lake to get to old Falzhütte. However, keep in mind that this is a protected forest which is about as dense as a primeval forest.
Destination Lake Mummelsee
Continue to the hut Darmstädter Hütte, where you have another opportunity to eat. Instead of walking along Schwarzwaldhochstraße again, take the path above it, and keep enjoying the lovely view. Keep hiking to Seibleseckle, from where Westweg trail gets you to lake Mummelsee, today's destination.
Where to eat
The hut on Seibelseckle, Schliffkopf Hotel, or Darmstädter Hütte are good opportunities to get something to eat. Check the opening hours beforehand.
