Situated beautifully amidst the Swiss Alps, Lake Silvaplana near St. Moritz is popular mainly among watersports enthusiasts. Due to relatively reliable winds, the lake is ideal for kite- and windsurfing. The so called Maloja wind starts blowing steadily around noon. Beginners should consider surfing in the morning, before the wind reaches peak velocity. Snow-kiting on the frozen lake is increasingly popular.

The Alpine lake is not particularly convenient for swimming: situated 1,790 metres above sea level, the water temperature rarely exceeds 16 degrees. If you are brave enough thouh, you are welcome to test the excellent water quality and harden yourself a bit! Afterwards, you can warm up by the campfire at one of the fire pits.
