Description
The Ballenberg Open-Air Museum in Switzerland showcases typical houses and settlements from all regions of the country. On the museum grounds, houses and farmsteads from the 14th to the 19th centuries have been faithfully reconstructed. Here you can take a look inside the kitchens, pantries, and living rooms of days gone by.
The historically furnished workshops also invite you to explore. Using authentic tools, artisans demonstrate traditional crafts: woodcarving, basket weaving, spinning and weaving, bobbin lace-making, blacksmithing, cheese-making, and baking.
Of course, no farm would be complete without animals. Discover Swiss farm animals frolicking in the meadows and pastures. The museum is open from April through the end of October.
Events
Special events bring old traditions and customs back to life. Traditional dances in folk costumes, Brächete, and an autumn market are just a few of them. Three inns on the grounds cater to your culinary needs and serve Swiss specialties; in addition, firewood for barbecuing is available at the picnic areas.
