Description

In the middle of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Landscape National Park, the Darß Lighthouse towers above the Darßwald forest – an active navigation mark dating back to 1848 with an impressive view and adjoining nature museum.
The lighthouse is enthroned on the north-western tip of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula - in the middle of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park. With its reddish-brown brick facade and a height of over 35 meters, it is one of the oldest lighthouses on the German Baltic coast. Its light has been warning ships of the shallows of the Darßer Schwelle since 1848.
Ascent with a sea view
The ascent to the platform is possible via a narrow spiral staircase with 134 steps. At the top, you can enjoy the far-reaching view over the western beach and Darßwald forest - and as far as Denmark on a clear day.
The Darß Lighthouse is part of the NATUREUM, a branch of the German Maritime Museum in Stralsund. The small natural history museum is located directly at the foot of the tower and complements the visit with exciting insights into the coastal landscape, wildlife and history of the Darß. A small café in the former keeper's house invites you to take a break.

How to get there
The Darß Lighthouse is located in the heart of the Western Pomerania Lagoon Landscape National Park and can only be reached on foot or by bike. By car, you can reach the western edge of Prerow. We recommend the parking lots on Bernsteinweg or the national park parking lot at the entrance to the village.
It is also easy to get to the entrance to the village by public transport: Buses run regularly from Ribnitz-Damgarten or Barth to Prerow. From the bus stop "Prerow Zentrum", simply follow the well-signposted route through the Darßwald forest.
