Just a few steps from the beach stands one of the most famous landmarks on the Baltic coast: the Warnemünde Lighthouse. It has been showing ships the way into Rostock's harbor entrance for over 120 years – and today offers visitors an impressive panorama of the coast, sea and Baltic seaside resort.

The lighthouse was built in 1898 and has been an integral part of the townscape of the popular Baltic seaside resort ever since. With its white and green striped facade, copper domed roof and two surrounding galleries, it is as architecturally attractive as it is technically remarkable: the beacon is still active today and visible for up to 24 nautical miles.

135 steps lead up to the upper platform, from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Baltic Sea, the beach, the harbor entrance and the neighboring Teepott. Particularly charming: the lighthouse is now looked after by a volunteer crew. Twelve lighthouse keepers not only maintain the lighthouse, but are also happy to share stories from its long history.

The ascent is only possible during the season: the tower opens its doors daily from Easter Saturday to the beginning of October. Those who arrive early avoid the crowds and secure the best spot for a souvenir photo high above the Baltic seaside resort of Warnemünde.

How to get there

The Warnemünde lighthouse is located directly on the beach promenade, just a few meters from the harbour entrance and the Teepott – right in the center of the Baltic seaside resort of Warnemünde, a district of Rostock. You can reach Warnemünde by car via the A19 or A20, from there the B103 or B105 lead to the center. You can park in the "Kurhaus" multi-storey parking lot or in the "Am Molenfeuer" parking lot.

You can easily reach Warnemünde by public transport with the S-Bahn (S1) from Rostock Central Station. The lighthouse is just a few minutes' walk from the station – simply follow the promenade towards the beach.
