A technical masterpiece with history

The Koblenz cable car was built as a special feature for the 2011 Federal Garden Show and opened in June 2010. Originally planned as a temporary attraction, it quickly became a permanent landmark of the city.

Built by the Austrian cable car specialist Doppelmayr, it connects the Rhine promenades near the Basilica of St. Castor with Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Covering a distance of nearly 900 meters, it crosses the Rhine in just four minutes. With a transport capacity of 7,600 people per hour, it is not only the most powerful but also the most modern cable car in Germany. By car: Several parking options are available nearby, including the Rhein-Mosel-Halle parking garage and public parking spaces along the Rhine promenade. From there, it’s only a short walk to the valley station.

By public transport: From Koblenz Central Station, visitors can take bus lines 1 or 5 to the stop “Deutsches Eck / Basilika St. Kastor.” From there, it’s just about 200 meters to the cable car.
