Elfercoaster in Stubai Valley

The Elfercoaster at the top station of the Elferbahnen in Neustift im Stubaital is one of the most modern rail coasters in Tyrol. At 1,790 metres above sea level, the adventure starts right at the top: roughly 1.3 kilometres of track — including one kilometre of exhilarating descent — wind through three loops and numerous steep curves down the mountain. The sleds reach speeds of up to 40 km/h and each seat two riders. A roughly 350-metre lift section automatically carries you and your sled back to the start.

In Any Weather and Any Season

The Elfercoaster operates independently of the weather — sunshine, cloud or light rain, the ride runs. This means it can also be used outside the classic summer season when needed, adding a year-round highlight to the offering on the Elfer, already known as the "balcony of the Stubaital".

The Elfer — More Than Just the Coaster

The Elfercoaster is reached via the Elfer Panoramabahn, a gondola lift from the edge of the village of Neustift. Once at the top, it is well worth taking in more than just the coaster: directly at the top station stands the largest walkable sundial in the Alps. The panoramic trail to the Elferhütte (2,080 m) is an easy family hike with views across the entire Stubaital and far out into the Inn Valley. Paragliders prize the thermals on the Elfer — the launch site is right at the top station. For bikers, the EinsEinser and ZweiZweier trails each run four kilometres of natural downhill track back to the valley.

A Family Day Out with the Full Programme

Combine a ride on the Elfercoaster with a hike along the Geh-Zeiten-Wege themed trails, a stop at the Elferhütte or the panorama restaurant at the top station, and a tandem paragliding flight over the Stubaital. In winter, the Elfer transforms into a toboggan paradise with the longest illuminated natural toboggan runs in Tyrol. The Elferbahnen are a partner of the Stubai Super Card.

The Elfercoaster opened in July 2026 after roughly ten months of construction. Building work began at the end of August 2025. The rail coaster was built by Wiegand, an international company specialising in alpine coasters, together with predominantly regional partner firms from the Stubaital and the surrounding area. The Elfer itself owes its name to the fact that the sun stands directly above its peak at 11:00 am. It has long been one of the most popular excursion mountains in the Stubaital. With the Elfercoaster, a further highlight has been added to its hiking trails, paragliding launch sites, via ferratas and toboggan runs.
