Description
High above the Inn Valley at the Piller Sattel, the Kaunergrat Nature Park House rises like a throne – Tyrol’s first nature park center and a symbol of how harmoniously nature and architecture can blend. Since its opening in 2007, it has delighted visitors as an excursion destination for the whole family: here, breathtaking panoramic views, fascinating insights into nature, and regional culinary delights come together.
Nature and architecture in harmony
The location could hardly be more impressive: at the "Gacher Blick", the terrain drops steeply by over 800 meters into the Upper Inn Valley, offering a view that resembles the perspective of a soaring eagle. Here, the Nature Park House connects the Kaunertal, Pitztal, and Inntal valleys into a symbolic intersection. Visitors can enjoy the wide view from the sun terrace, while children explore the natural playground.
Inside, guests will find the multimedia exhibition “Magic of Diversity”, which brings the park’s extreme range of altitudes to life – from dry steppes in the Inn Valley to glaciers at 3,000 meters. The experience is complemented by a selection of regional products available for purchase, as well as a restaurant that serves regional delicacies.
The Kaunergrat Nature Park House is a popular destination year-round – whether for a short rest on the sunny terrace, an educational exhibition tour, or as a starting point for hikes through the nature park.
Historical Information
The idea for the Nature Park House arose a few years after the founding of the Kaunergrat Nature Park in 1998. The goal was to create a central place where visitors could learn about the region’s diversity. Eight years later, in September 2006, construction of the building began at the Piller Sattel. The location was deliberately chosen: the "Gacher Blick", a prominent lookout for thousands of years, symbolizes the connection between Kaunertal, Pitztal, and Inntal.
On August 19, 2007, Tyrol’s first Nature Park House was officially opened. Since then, it has become a flagship project for sustainable architecture in harmony with nature. With its clean architectural lines and seamless integration into the landscape, it blends harmoniously into its surroundings while offering state-of-the-art educational opportunities.
