Route description

The tour around the Monte Brione starts directly by its fortress at the San Nicoló port in Arco. You will find the Forte San Nicoló here. A guided tour of the fort is always enjoyable whilst getting lots of input about the history of the Monte Brione. Next highlight on the tour will then be the Sentiero della Pace (“Path of Piece”) that you will reach up the mountain, before going towards the Forte Garda and the Batteria di Mezzo - yet another two fortresses out of the 20th century.

 

Furthermore hike towards the northern pinnacle, where you will reach the last fortification of the mountain, the Forte San Alessandro. From there the paths will lead your way downhill to the San Nicoló port, the starting point of the hike.

Highlights of the tour

One special highlight of the tour are the impressive remains of the fortifications, which were built on the Monte Brione since the 19th century as a protection against the troops from Switzerland. Moreover, the Monte Brione is notable because of its unique shape. It might not be a tall mountain with a height of 376 meters, but it does have an impressive rock faces that seemingly falls down vertically.

Getting here

By car

You can access the staring point of the hike easily by car. Take the SS240 to Arco. The San Nicoló port is located right at the start of the village Arco whilst coming from the direction of Nago. There are numerous parking spots available in this area.
